Invitation to Annual IoD UK Convention Indigo 02 Arena, London, April 25, 2012

On behalf of the Organizing Committee, we wish to invite you to this year’s Convention of the Institute of Directors UK, scheduled to hold at the Indigo 02 Arena, London, on April 25, 2012. The Convention is designed to primarily focus on Entrepreneurship, Social Media and the 2012 Olympics.
 

THE CONVENTION PROCESS AND STRUCTURE

The event is structured to engage delegations and business leaders from within and outside the UK in an open dialogue to review achievements, identify and discuss constraints to progress, agree on issues that need immediate response and decide on how all stakeholders can effectively contribute towards addressing identified challenges. 

The Convention process consists of a number of Sessions which include:

I. Social media session- Be inspired by a host of social media expert who will share their top tips on maximizing your online presence and making it work for you.

II. Olympics business session – What drives sporting success? How can you translate it into a business environment? Former Olympians Steve Backley and Roger Black run Backley Black will be using their knowledge to provide business with these answers and deliver real bottom line results

III.Entrepreneur’s session- World renowned entrepreneurs sharing their success stories, their failures, and their plans for growth will be in attendance. Last year, the convention witnessed among many the presence of Mr. Wilfred Emmanuel- Jones, The Black Farmer who took his black farmer brand into fashion. This maverick entrepreneur talked about sausages, suits and sticking up for small business.

Moreover, the key features of this year’s Convention include a series of business meetings and visitations on the following dates: April 23 – Affiliate meeting; April 24 - Visit to IoD Reading in UK; April 25 – IoD UK Convention; and April 26 – Tactical Leadership Seminar. Further to the above, there will be cross cutting developmental issues on which very high level international speakers have been invited to deliver key note addresses. The Speakers include the following:

·         Lord Browne - partner of Riverstone Holding LLC & former Group Chief Executive of BP.

·         Paul Walsh- Chief Executive of Diageo Plc

·         Kevin Roberts, C.E.O. of Saatchi & Saatchi worldwide

·    Steve Backley OB E- the Britain’s most consistent and popular athlete. for  over a decade

·    Roger Black MBE- Has won fifteen major championship medals including European, Common wealth and world championship Gold medals.

·         Backley Black– former Olympian

The speakers will be supported by a panel of sector experts’ contributions and followed by general discussions. Participants at each Session are expected to number 500 - 600.  The essence is for the Convention participants including the leadership of the UK government and international business leaders to learn from shared experiences and insights in order to fast-track the growth and development of businesses and economies across the globe.

At this year’s edition, therefore, we are expecting very high profile local and international resource persons to speak on some specific key issues of growth and development.  Over the past years we have seen nations and businesses grapple with the process of defining and crafting a development and growth strategy which would transform them into a modern, globally competitive economies and businesses. Therefore the event provides the most needed opportunity to realize the above objective.

Given the nature, scope and level of participation as well as the projected benefits of the Convention, as in the past, and to ensure a hitch-free registration, participation fee is:  £600 for a member and £650 for a non-member respectively.
 

You are kindly requested to fill and submit the attached registration form along with a cheque/draft for the registration fee (drawn in favour of the Institute of Directors Nigeria) and returned on or before March 29, 2012.  Further logistic details are outlined in the registration form.  Please note that attendance at the Convention is profiled strictly by invitation and that this invitation is personal to you.
