Rotary Club of Lagos Island, Installs Sanjeev Tandon as 2nd President

The Rotary Club of Lagos Island recently installed PHF Rotarian Sanjeev Tandon as its second President, to lead the affairs of the club for the period 2017-2018.

Rotary Club of Lagos Island, which is a Mega Club in District 9110 which covers Lagos and Ogun State, is one of the vibrant clubs.

District Governor Rotarian Dr. Adewale Ogunbadejo was the special guest of honour at the installation ceremony, which attracted members of the club who are CEOs of notable companies and brands in the country.

Giving his address the Outgoing President, Rotarian PHF Vinod Kumar Garg commended the District Governor and members for all the support he got as the pioneer leader.

Rotarian Vinod Garg said since inception the club has played significant roles in key service projects that have been of tremendous impact to communities.

He listed the projects to include; diabetes test through eye screening (stand alone in June 2016), breast cancer awareness (stand alone in October 2016), Mission for Vision (In partnership with parent club in July-August, 2016), End Polio Now campaign (In partnership with parent club in October, 2016), eye surgeries (GeetaAsharm in Lagos, Kano in November, 2016) and supported general surgeries from Team India (June, 2017).

The Outgoing President was proud to highlight the fact that Rotary Club of Lagos Island in the first week of December, 2016 within 6 months of the Club’s existence achieved the first Mega Club status of District 9110 reaching 100 or more paid members.

Another major landmark under his tenure, according to Rotarian Vinod-Garg, was the partnership and selection of the Club of Lagos Island as the host club for the $200,000 Artificial limbs project by the Rotary Club of Singapore.

The New President PHF Rotarian Sanjeev Tandon in his speech assured the members that the RCLI will have as its three top priorities the support and strengthening of the club, focus & increase in humanitarian services and enhancing Rotary’s public image & awareness.

RCLI President Sanjeev Tandon listed the following as plans of the Mega Club; membership development, development of Rotary Foundation with a target contribution of $10,000, Mission for Vision support, Project Haryali (Mega tree plantation), Clean water project (providing water for a minimum of 5 schools), setting up of free medical checkup camps and blood donation camps support.

Service projects planned are the Project Ishk, Artificial Limb Project (joint project with Rotary Club of Singapore), Project Abhiyan Ile-Iwe (Transformation of 2 primary schools-Teslim Elias & Union Baptist at Adeniji Adele road to model schools).

Speaking further the President said, “I am confident that we will be successful in achieving our goals, with the goodwill & support of the district and the team work of our dynamic members who have always shown great enthusiasm towards any project that the club takes up”.
