Lagos, Borno have the Highest Prison Capacity in Nigeria - NBS

Prison capacity rises from 47,646 in 2013 to 50,153 in 2015 with Lagos (3897), Borno (3422) and Kaduna (2702) as the states with highest capacities.

In 2013 158,896 persons were admitted to prisons of which 151,052 were men and 7,844 women. In 2014 138,842 persons were admitted to prisons of which 132,008 were men and 6,834 were women.

As at Q2 2015,  45,762 persons were admitted to prisons of which 43,457 were men and 2,305 were women. Stealing, robbery, armed robbery and assaults were the highest type of offences responsible for prison admission between 2013-15.
