February 11, 2011
The Federal Government has declared February 15, 2011 as public holiday to commemorate the Id-el–Maulud, the birthday of Prophet Muhammed.
The market is not expected to be open on this day – so we will be looking forward to a 4-day week.
The Minister of Interior, Capt. Emmanuel Ihenacho (retd.), who made the declaration on behalf of President Goodluck Jonathan, urged all Muslim faithful to pray for enduring peace and progress of the country as the nation prepares for general elections this year.
Eid el-Maulud is marked yearly in commemoration of the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad (May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), who was born in 570 AD in Mecca.
For Muslims, the lessons of Maulud lie in the message of peace, truthfulness, faithfulness and eschewing all forms of vice preached by the prophet.
