Fintech Nigeria Association (FintechNGR) today hosted an industry consultative forum with the House of Representative Committee on Information and Communication Technology, in Lagos.
It was an opportunity to bridge the gaps between the legislator, regulators & the industry, as it concerns the Fintech ecosystem in Nigeria.
The roundtable discussed the following issues;
1. Fostering an avenue to setup new or amend existing standards to encourage & accelerate innovation
2. Promoting indigenous and home grown solutions for the Nigerian Fintech Industry
3. Canvassing for incentivisation & funding of startups, flexibility inlicensing, tax rebate, infrastructural improvements etc.
From the engagement with lawmakers, Fintech Nigeria resolved to present a national position on the state of regulation, innovation, funding amongst others at the forthcoming ICT Nigeria roadmap conference.
Scheduled for the 10-11th, October 2018 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State the conference which will be chaired by Vice-President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN.
It will also have in attendance key regulators the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, the Securities and Exchange Commission, SEC Nigeria, National Insurance Commission, NAICOM amongst other government agencies.
The key focus will be explore how to holistically approach the regulatory bottleneck stifling innovation, to unlock the immense opportunities that abound in industries like Fintech.
Mrs Bunmi Lawson chaired the forum while Hon. Onawo Mohammed the Chairman House Committee on ICT, led the delegation of lawmakers.
Fintech Nigeria will hold a knowledge empowerment session for staff of the Securities and Exchange Commission in Abuja on September 12, 2018.
