President Muhammadu Buhari in his Eid-El-Kabir message to all Muslims and Nigerians, has vowed to deal with every form of terrorism, extremism and vices fuelling insecurity and tensions in the country.
He congratulated muslims as they celebrate the Sallah season and charged them to abhor every form of extremism and avoid those who are propagating such messages.
President Muhammadu Buhari likened extremism to cancer that must be detected from its early stages of growth and destroyed.
He called for religious tolerance and promised Nigerians that his administration will leave no stone unturned in guaranteeing the security of Nigerians.
According to him “Islam is a religion of peace and we should avoid violent extremist ideas that give Islam a wrong name because our conduct leave more lasting positive impressions than what we say by word of mouth.’’
Speaking on the activities of the deadly Boko Haram sect, Buhari said “Boko Haram became a deadly force and a major security scourge because Muslim societies were indifferent from the beginning to the activities of extremist preachers who manipulate innocent and gullible followers.’’
The President restated his commitment to the security of the nation, even as the military and the police will continue to be equipped and motivated to give their best in tackling insurgents and securing the country.
President Buhari is currently in his hometown Daura, Katsina state to celebrate the Eid Mubarak day and is also playing host to his Guinean counterpart, President Alpha Conde.
Monday and Tuesday (August 12th and 13th, 2019) will be observed as public holidays to mark Eid-El-Kabir.
