The Supreme Court of Nigeria in its ruling today dropped all charges levelled against the Senate President of Nigeria Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki.

In an unanimous decision taken by a 5-man panel of  Judges, the Apex court upheld the appeal of the Senate President nullified the Court of Appeal Judgement that required Dr Saraki to stand in defence of the corruption charges entered against him by the Federal Government.

By its judgement the Supreme Court panel of Judges stated that the Court of Appeal committed “judicial equivalent of forensic summersault” even after it noted that all evidence prosecution adduced before the Code of Conduct Tribunal, amounted to hearsay evidence.

The Apex court relied on Section 302 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, ACJA 2015 clearing the Chairman of the National Assembly of all the allegation against him.

Senate President Dr Bukola Saraki made an appeal to the Supreme Court to quash charges made against him by the Court of Appeal, after he closed his defence before the CCT.

It will be recalled that in June 14, 2017 the Justice Danladi Umar led Code of Conduct Tribunal in its verdict, discharged and acquitted Saraki of all levelled against him by the Federal Government.

The Saraki Legal team is led by former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation Dr Kanu Agabi, SAN.
