Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, holding on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 – Tuesday, March 26, 2019 in Morocco


The 52nd session of the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UN ECA) and Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development will hold in Marrakesh, Morocco from 20th to 26th March 2019.



The fifty-second session of the Commission will focus on the theme of “fiscal policy, trade and the private sector in the digital era: a strategy for Africa”. 

The Conference of Ministers provides a suitable opportunity for African Ministers to examine the fiscal policies necessary for the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area within the frameworks of the 2030 Agenda and Agenda 2063 and the critical role of private sector in the era of the digital economy. 

The plenary sessions of the Conference of Ministers will commence with a high-level policy dialogue on the theme for 2019, followed by plenary sessions on a series of sub-themes. Contributions from seasoned and high-level panelists from within and outside Africa will guide the discussion, which will be informed by recent findings in the concept note and technical background materials towards building consensus on priority areas for action. 

Inspiring discussions are anticipated to arise from a number of side events scheduled to take place on 23 and 24 March 2019. These events, held in parallel, will be limited to 90 minutes each. 


Side-Event:  The Africa Fintech Network Member Bodies

UN ECA has approved a joint side event with the Africa Fintech Network(AFN), Afdb and the Ecobank Group on the theme "Fintech and Digital identification for financial inclusion". All side events are planned to hold 23rd and 24th March.

In addition to the Fintech side events, UNECA has also approved the launch of the Africa Fintech Network and Members general meeting during this period. 

The Executive Secretary of UNECA already confirmed her attendance while Ministers and other dignitaries will also be invited to attend the AFN events.
