I run a brand promotion business that offers a wide range of services from advertising, selling, and direct marketing to sales promotion and public relations services. Based on the demands of the business, I have been able to work with different professionals over the years. However, the competitive nature of the business has created a need to engage in the consistent recruitment of highly talented professionals.

For most Nigerian business units, particularly start-ups it is quite difficult to control operations. We experience such challenges as organizing teams, sorting out services, and getting the right professionals to offer the right services among other issues. Even with the right budget, highly talented professionals are scarce, making recruitment a high budget problem.

The problem has contributed to the failure of most business units in the country. National data showed that about 80% of start-ups fold up after three years of operation. Within the country, most of the well established states for business transactions had an average of 49.52 on ease of doing business. This showed that business owners experienced difficulty in their daily activities.

More recently, the emerging unemployment rate in the country and over the globe has led to the acquisition of skills by young and talented minds. These talented minds have turned the typical informal working economy to a 'gig' economy where they can work in the comfort of their homes and provide adequate services to employers. Across African markets, companies are pioneering business models that bridge the formal and informal sectors; in these models, each company is a formal entity but can mobilise large numbers of informal actors in their supply chains or service delivery.

In Africa, there are over 270 active service platforms ready to meet the demands of employers, creating a pool of 4.8 million talents around Africa. In Nigeria alone, about 2 million skilled professionals have benefited from these platforms and are ready to provide quality services anytime. These ’Bridge companies are pioneering new ways of injecting efficiency and higher productivity into traditional informal markets. Almost every company has some positions that remain unfilled for a long time.

In my experience, I chose to work with - Outsourcing platforms on a short-term arrangement. It saved me the stress of recruitment and ensured that I could choose from a pool of vetted service provider with the speed of light. It is highly convenient to work with these skilled professionals who are flexible and adaptive to the demands of their functions.

In 2018, 57 million Americans worked as freelancers accounting for a significant 36% of the nation's workforce and it was projected that 25% of the job markets will be controlled by this emerging economy.

When I changed my recruitment strategy to focus on hiring based on demand using freelancers, I encountered a few problems. Some of the service providers could not get my job done on time and I never got refunds for the poor service rendered. I decided to utilize outsourcing platforms to solve the problem.

My search for a service platform that met the recruitment needs for my business led me to an Instagram page with the name teraworkng. At that point, I needed a content writer to lead a promotion on the effectiveness of branding to clients and a video editor to edit my video content for a YouTube promotion video.

I registered on the platform and identified a pool of freelancers who could provide the services I wanted. Like every other platform, it was expected to find an influx of freelancers pushing for the job after posting the job.

I envisaged the stress initially but terawork helped solve this problem through their premium service package through this platform, I was saved from the stress of sorting and analysing freelancers for the job. Rather, I was referred to freelancers who could do my job based on the requirements provided and captured track records.

Recruitment in Nigeria and all over the world comes with stress. Sometimes it takes months of a rigid process to get an employee for a job function. It was reported that 52% of human resource professionals complained of having a huge talent gap in their organizations which is similar in most organizations.

Using a platform like terawork, short term arrangements can be initiated and recruitment is done to serve the employers' convenience and immediate needs.

This platform aids entrepreneurs to find and hire workers who can help to build their brand or improve their marketing, handle back-office operations while they focus on their core business. The best part is you hire quality freelancers for your project leveraging on data to make a better decision and you don’t pay for sub-standard jobs, their payment escrow system ensures that you only release payment to freelancers after the tasks have been successfully delivered.

Although there are risks, outsourcing ultimately offers business owners great advantages. The process allows you to build a team of skilled professionals without adding the expense of full-time employees, and to avoid getting bogged down with tasks that can be completed without your attention, it's an affordable, proven strategy for growing your business without letting it take over your life.

I am not only a massive fan of outsourcing, but I think it is essential to integrate it into your business model. At least... it's something you should consider...It is like 'steroids for business', it can plug into any business model and virtually any company and can:

- Slash costs

- Increase revenues

- Drive sales

- Drive innovation

- Push into new market

- Build out more products

- Build out better products

As an entrepreneur I understand you have great talents and many times you think you can do it all," "That can really stall the growth of the business. When you outsource, you can focus your time, attention and resources on your company's core competencies--and spend your time setting new goals and finding ways to achieve them.
