NESG Announces NES#24 Startup Pitching Event

The Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG), a private-sector funded organisation announces the launch of the application portal for the NES #24 Startups Pitching Event to be held at the 24thNigerian Economic Summit in Abuja. 

NES#24 pitching event provides a platform for new ventures seeking to raise funds connect with potential investors at the conference.

It aims to connect new ventures seeking to raise funds with potential investors. During the event, 8 selected start-ups will pitch in front of venture capitalists and investors. Each start-up will have 5 minutes to pitch to prospective investors and 10 minutes to answer questions from them.

Submission of applications for the event opened since Wednesday, August 1, 2018 and it is organized in partnership with the Lagos Angel Network (LAN). LAN is the premier angel network in Nigeria and one of the most active in Africa. Founded in 2014, LAN with foremost Nigerian investor, Mr Dotun Sulaiman as Chairman, while Mr Tomi Davies, Mr Collins Onuegbu, Mr Tokunboh Ishmael, Mr Dipo Adebo, Mr Segun Olukoya and Mr David Richards will serve as board members.

The NESG partnership with LAN is helping to create a network of business angels that put start-up funding and mentoring into early-stage ventures in Lagos, Nigeria. Since its creation, LAN members have invested in over a dozen Lagos start-ups.

The platform of Venture Capital for Africa (VC4Africa) will curate applications and the pitch materials will be available on the platform to the investors. VC4Africa’s tools will review and shortlist the companies in the run up to the events while an adjudication team from the Lagos Angel Network and Nigerian Economic Summit Group will select the 8 start-ups that will be invited to the event.

Interested start-ups must be engaged in any sector of the economy including health, education, agriculture, renewable energy and transport and are invited to visit the NESG website (www.nesgroup.org) and the NES #24Startups Pitching Event page on the VC4Africa platform for additional information and submission of their applications. 

Interested investors and partners should contact the NESG Secretariat for further information on registering for the event. 

The application process will end on August 31, 2018 and successful startups will be announced on October 5, 2018. They will be invited to pitch at the event on October 21, 2018 to a group of investors at the Transorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.

Eligible ventures must be in the early customer/revenue stage. Prototype or concept stage ventures will not be considered. This year’s event sponsors include Sterling Bank PLC, Accenture and Ventures Platform.
