Vice-President Prof Yemi Osinbajo (SAN) and Mr Tony Elumelu Chairman Tony Elumelu Foundation and visioner of "Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Programme" for Africa, have both tasked young entrepreneurs on driving the continent's transformation.

Both leaders gave their charge at the 3rd edition of the Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Forum, in Lagos.

The Vice-President of Nigeria in his message described the TEF entrepreneurs as the next set of business leaders, that will transform the socio-economic landscape of Africa.

Osinbajo urged them to lay aside the weight  of the past setbacks in the continent, namely;  civil wars, famine, coup d’etat, famine, poverty, corrupt government and dictators and forge a new pathway to repositioning Africa. In his words But history, we must remember, is not merely a record of the past, but it is the past. It is gone! Our future is not determined by history or the past unless we allow it. The history of Africa does not determine its future. The days you live here are much greater and better than the past.

He was optimistic about the potentials of the 1,000 2017 TEF entrepreneurs in providing solutions to Africa's challenges, as a region.

On his part Mr Tony Elumelu the Chairman of the TEF, decried the fact that despite aid inflows of $469bl into Africa in the last decade, poverty remained unabated in the continent.

Elumelu believed Africa had enterprising, young and energetic people, who are eager to champion development through entrepreneurship.

The Business icon shared that the decision to invest $100ml to empower 10,000 young African entrepreneurs in 10 years (2015-2025), was borne out of the need to provide a platform that gives hope to young entrepreneurs with innovative and business ideas, that can revolutionize Africa.

Speaking further he stressed that through TEF "Each according to their capability must join hands to help take Africa out of poverty".

Africa's richest man Alhaji Aliko Dangote, who graced the event, charged the TEF 2017 entrepreneurs to "see the invisible and be daring enough to do the impossible". He said "Entrepreneurship had the potent tools for Africa's transformation".

Dr Oba Otudeko Chairman Honeywell Group congratulated the 1,000 2017 TEF entrepreneurs and enjoined them to take African business processes and standards, to global standards.

Governors Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina and Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara, both commended Mr Tony Elumelu for the TEEP initiative, and urged the entrepreneurs to utilize the opportunities given to them, effectively.

Highlights of the event was the presentation of awards to the outstanding TEF Alumni since 2015 and the signing of MOUs between the Tony Elumelu Foundation and development agencies-United Nations Development Programme and the French Development Agency.

The Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Programme in Africa, now has 3,000 entrepreneurs empowered since inception, with each receiving a seed capital of $5,000 .
