The Dean of Lagos Business School Prof. Enase Okonedo yesterday tasked the African Academy of Management to explore avenues of deepening Africa' regional economy, through its management research studies.

She disclosed this at the 5th Biennial conference of the Academy hosted by the LBS, which focused on the theme "Globalization, Pan-Africanism and African Business Climate."

The event brought together scholars across African Universities and the Diaspora in Management studies.

Prof. Okonedo noted that since the global financial crisis of 2008, Africa has become recognized as the last frontier for economic transformation and industrialization.

She believed the theme of the conference was apt and allowed scholars to discuss what it will take for the African continent to get to the next level in regional economic development.

Speaking on the Lagos Business School, Okonedo said the school's focus was on developing talent and skills that are globally competitive in the areas of business and management.

At the moment, she noted that the LBS had shifted focus on training and equipping managers for the African region and the global community.

She described Lagos, the host city of the conference as a strategic economy in Africa, with a Gross Domestic Product (GDP) size of eight neighbouring West African countries.

The Chairman of the LBS Local Organizing Committee for the conference Professor Chris Ogbeche in his remarks, assured the delegates that the 4-day conference would be impactful and broaden the scope of management studies on the continent.

President of the African Management Academy, Dr. David Zoogah, in his speech, believed that the conference underscored the growing connection between management studies and developing trends in integration, cross-border trade and regional cooperation in Africa.

He said AFAM would continue to work closely with the African Union and other relevant international development agencies to deepen research studies, that can transform the regional economy.

The 4-day conference will feature various paper presentations from scholars in areas of management, social entrepreneurship, governance &  globalization, and developing trends in Africa.
