The Chartered Financial Analyst Society of Nigeria as part of its focus of creating the platform, for Investments and Finance research, hosted the first ever National Research Challenge in Lagos.
This is an annual event at the CFA Global society level and the 12th Edition since inception.
In his opening remarks the President of CFA Society Nigeria Mr Banji Fehintola,CFA congratulated the 8 Universities participating and believed it will give them the necessary exposure and insight into investment and financial analysis.
Mr Fehintola was happy that Nigeria was now hosting the competition and stated that the winner of the National Challenge, will participate at the EMEA Regional Challenge in Dublin,Ireland.
The CFA Nigeria President commended Zenith Bank Nigeria Plc for sponsoring the event and also the Mr Razak Bakare committee on the Research Challenge and the Panel of Judges for participating.
He enjoined the students to seize the opportunity, by giving their best and determining to put Nigeria on the global landscape in Investment Finance analysis.
Zenith Bank Chairman Mr Jim Ovia, CON speaking at the event through the Deputy Managing Director Mr Ebenezer Onyeagwu lauded the CFA Institute Research Challenge and the 1st edition in Nigeria .
According to him “Looking at the history of the CFA Institute Research Challenge, I noticed that for the past three years, the global finals of the competition has been dominated by the Americas.Well, that is unacceptable, especially now that we have something to do with the competition. It is time to shake the competition up and take it to a whole new level! I am convinced that one of you is getting set to put an end to that winning streak.”
Mr Ovia said the Challenge was a good experience for the Nigerian students, because it was a competition that exposes them to certain tacit knowledge and soft skills like time management, team work, delegation, and effective communication among other skills.
He charged the students to resolve to show the world that Nigeria has what it takes to produce world class financial analysts that are well-grounded in financial research, analysis and presentation.
The 8 Universities that participated in the Challenge include; Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, University of Ibadan, Babcock University, Lagos Business School, University of Abuja, Covenant University and University of Lagos.
Subject discourse for the 2017/18 National Research Challenge was “Flour Mills Nigeria” which had the Chief Financial Officer Jacques Vauthier in attendance.
At the end of the Challenge Covenant University emerged overall winners and will now represent Nigeria at the EMEA Regional Challenge.

The CFA Institute Research Challenge is the world’s most prestigious investment research competition which promotes ethics and best practices in investment research through hands-on mentoring and intensive training in equity analysis and presentation.
