Lagos Business School is set to play host to a gathering of African management scholars, practitioners and academics at the 5th edition of the Africa Academy of Management Conference scheduled for the 8th of January, 2020.

Themed 'Globalisation, Pan-Africanism and the African Business Climate', the week-long conference will facilitate dialogue and debate on the deployment of resources and alignment of business opportunities to facilitate sustainability and access to better living conditions for Africans. The theme will be exploring two distinct aspects of the newly emerging African business environment: how external actors invest, relocate, and interact with indigenous African businesses, and how internal African businesses move across national boundaries and explore the Pan-African environment.

Africa-focused conversations among participants at the Conference will border on topics such as Strategy and International Management, Public Policy, Administration and Non-Governmental Organisations, Social Issues in Management Sustainability, Entrepreneurship and Small Business, Organisational Behavior and Human Resource Management, and Green Management, among others.

According to Member, AFAM and Chairman, Local Organising Committee, Professor Chris Ogbechie, "The objective of the AFAM Conference is to broaden the discourse of development in Africa by bringing together scholars and industry players who will chart new courses for sustainable development in Africa. It aligns with Lagos Business School's missional imperative of developing responsible leaders for Africa as we continually seek new collaborations that will advance management practice, leadership and in this case, sustainability in Africa."

Earlier in the year, the Conference called for the submission of academic papers from scholars in universities across the 36 states of Nigeria. These papers explored issues relevant to the conference theme and answered pertinent questions that affect Africa such as, "how can foreign direct investment be best managed in the African context?", "how can African regional actors compete with international firms?", and "how can local firms be encouraged to globalise, and/or expand across the African continent?", among many others.

This is the first time the AFAM Conference will hold in Nigeria. The biennial event has held successfully in Gaborone and Nairobi in 2014 and 2016, respectively, and in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in 2018.
