The Ifedolapo Damilola Adedipe Foundation incorporated on 24th November, 2014 by notable Nigerian economist Dr Abiodun Adedipe and Mrs Olaide Adedipe has since inception focused on addressing the challenge of “Girl-Child Education” in Nigeria, with the provision of scholarship awards to deserving female students in Nigerian studying economics in the University, with a consistent CGPA of 3.75 performed its official launching ceremony in Lagos.
This was in memory of Late Ifedolapo Damilola Adedipe a daughter of the Adedipes who passed on in 2013 at the age of 22. Her life throughout her sojourn on earth was devoted to helping humanity, which informed the need for the foundation to immortalize her efforts and ideas.
It was an event that attracted friends, associates of the Adedipe family and also strong believers in philanthropy and the empowerment of the of the girl-child in Nigeria.
In her opening remarks the Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the IDAF, Mrs Uwa Ohiku lauded Dr & Mrs Adedipe for the foundation which she was happy to be associated with and described Late Ifedolapo as a virtuous lady, who was an embodiment of love and encouragement to her family, friends, and colleagues while she was alive.
Mrs. Ohiku said so far since the inception of the foundation 12 female students have benefitted from the scholarships in Four (4) Federal Universities across the nation.
Giving an overview of the IDAF the Chairman, Board of Trustees Mr. Tunde Ojo shared that the core objectives of IDAF include;
1. To promote the legacy of Ifedolapo Damilola Adedipe (Late)
2. To promote education of the girl-child and fulfilment of aspirations
3. Passion for excellece
4. To sho compassion for the underprivileged
5. To foster generosity
6. To motivate contemporaries and younger ones to challenging heights
Delivering her keynote, the Chairman of the occasion Mrs. Osareti Demuren commended the IDAF for its laudable work and was proud to be a product of the girl-child education in Nigeria. Mrs. Demuren made a strong case for the elimination of all forms of gender bias in the Nigerian socio-economic space.
She stressed the need for Nigeria to urgently address the 10million “Out-Of-School” children statistics which was alarming and inimical to the human development index in the country.
The GTB Board Chairman called on the Federal and State Governments to give top priority to investments in the education sector, particularly improving the quality in public schools. She also tasked the Federal Government to make efforts in eradicating poverty through progressive economic reforms.
Highlights of the event was the award of the disbursements of scholarships to the new beneficiaries, which took the total number to 12 since the rollout in 2016.
The IDAF has Union Trustees Limited (now known as UTL Trust Management Services Limited) was appointed as Fund Managers to the Trust.
Ifedolapo Damilola Adedipe was born on 3rd August 1991, had her first degree (B.Sc. Economics, 2.1) from the Covenant University, Ota in June 2010 and proceeded to University of Sussex, Brighton in the United Kingdom for her M.Sc. degree in Economics in August 2011 (specializing in Development Economics), She also attended the London School of Economics for the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Level one examination which she passed in one sitting in December 2011 and came back same year to observe the compulsory National Youth Service between May and June 2012 and also sat for the Level two of the CFA exam also in June 2012.
She slumped on the morning of 4th July 2013, went into coma and was rushed to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital from where she passed on to glory on 23rd July 2013 (two weeks before her 22nd birthday).
