The Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council, PEBEC, hosted a stakeholders forum in collaboration with the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Section on Business Law.
It was an opportunity to discuss the features of the CAM Bill 2018 which has been transmitted by the National Assembly to the President for his assent and signing into law.
The Minister of Industries, Trade and Investments, Dr Okechukwu Enelamah, commended the private sector for their cooperation so far with the government, leading to far-reaching business reforms.
He described the stakeholder forum as an opportunity for the government to communicate its plans and reform initiatives to the private sector. He also noted that it served as an avenue for the government to receive feedback on the impact of its policies.
Dr Jumoke Oduwole the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Industries, Trade and Investments, was excited at the pace of the reforms driven by PEBEC and domiciled in the Enabling Business Environment Secretariat.
She lauded the private sector for the support and partnership, describing the stakeholders forum as a unique opportunity for the Business Law Section of the NBA to give their views on provisions of the CAM Bill 2018.
Earlier in the week PEBEC according to Dr Oduwole hosted a similar forum with stakeholders in Agri-business in Kano, and received feedback on the state of the reforms.
On the Small Claims court established in Lagos and Kano, Oduwole said remarkable progress has been made in the area of settlements/dispute resolutions and other States like Edo are eager to establish their own courts to improve the business environment.
The PEBEC/NBA Section on Business Law featured a panel session that discussed the various changes and developments around the CAM Bill 2018, covering areas like insolvency, Tax provisions, and the seamless registration process for businesses and the progress made by the small claims courts.
Presently, the CAM Bill 2018 which has
been described as one of the most significant legal reform initiatives carried
out by any Nigerian government in the last three decades, has been passed by
the National Assembly and awaits the President's signature.
