As part of efforts to improve the Nigerian business environment, the Minister for Industries, Trade and Investments Dr. Okechukwu Enelamah today officially launched the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council, PEBEC REPORTGOV.NG App in Lagos.
This was at the “Regulatory Conversations 3.0” event themed “Improving Transparency and Ease of Doing Business in Nigeria", and hosted by The Convention on Business Integrity/The Integrity Organisation in collaboration with Action Aid, Nigerian Economic Summit Group, Lagos Chamber of Commerce & Industry and BusinessDay Newspapers, in partnership with the Enabling Business Environment Secretariat (EBES) of the Council.
Dr Enelamah said the App which is interactive will provide an opportunity for Nigerians to interact with the Ministries, Departments and Agencies in the area of service delivery and resolution of complaints.
He said the ease of doing business reforms in Nigeria is gaining traction, and the App will serve as an opportunity for the MDAs involved in the implementation of the policies, to receive feedback from the public on the impact.
According to the Minister “The PEBEC App launch is an attempt to create an avenue for engagement and interaction between the government and stakeholders to improve the business environment”.
Also at the event Mr Adedotun Sulaiman a member of the PEBEC council from the private sector, described the App launch as a welcome development in addressing bottlenecks in achieving the ease of doing business.
Sulaiman said it served as a platform for channelling complaints to the appropriate quarters, for prompt resolution.
He was particularly impressed that with the App every complaint lodged by Nigerians to MDAs, will be tracked.
Mr Muda Yusuf the Director-General of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, described the PEBEC App as a game changer, that will transform the Nigerian business landscape.
Senior Special Assistant to the President on Industries, Trade and Investment Dr Jumoke Oduwole said the App launch was part of steps to effect reforms in the business environment.
Oduwole noted that the PEBEC App was the outcome of the Executive Order 01 by the Muhammadu Buhari administration, on the “Ease of Doing Business”, which focused on “The promotion of transparency and efficiency in the business environment designed to facilitate the ease of doing business in the country”.
According to her a high level of success across several areas has been recorded, and MDAs have made significant improvements.
“Many have taken up the challenge to deliver more transparent and efficient services to their customers in alignment with EO1, with a number of notable milestones achieved, such as an increase in the number of MDAs that have functional websites containing detailed information about their services or statutory functions, as well as improved collaboration among MDAs” Oduwole said .
She said with the REPORTGOV.NG government agencies, will be tracked in terms of service delivery and prompt resolution of complaints from the public.
The PEBEC REPORTGOV.NG mobile App is available on Google Play store, and is coming soon to the iOS stores to enable users give feedback or complaint that will drive continuous improvement in service delivery and public protection.
PEBEC was established in July 2016 to remove delays and restrictions that come with doing business in Nigeria, and make the country an easier place to start and grow a business. Supported by Executive Order 01 (EO1) signed in 2017 to promote transparency and efficiency in the business environment, PEBEC was created to drive EO1’s six directives, which aim to address specific limitations identified in the civil and public service systems.
