The commodities market in Nigeria has a wide sphere of influence impacting people and processes from our rural areas to our cities both big and small. Prices established through the activities in the market directly impact our lives, determining a range of important things from the price we pay to fill up our cars to how much we pay for a bag of rice. The commodities trading and investment ecosystem also presents opportunities to participants to create wealth along the entire commodities value chain, but a lack of awareness of these opportunities stunts the growth of the sector and the ability of individuals to benefit from it.

AFEX Commodities Exchange, Nigeria’s first private sector commodities exchange, is launching an initiative to help close up the knowledge gap of existing and interested market participants seeking to understand the operations and unique characteristics of the Nigerian commodities ecosystem. On the back of AFEX’s soon to be launched education platform, EdEX, the Exchange is hosting a workshop for journalists and media personnel called Trading Stories. The Trading Stories workshop is designed as a platform for media and commodity experts to meet and exchange ideas about the growing commodities market in Nigeria.

The workshop will be led by a team of experts currently in the commodities business and in adjacent fields, who will give insights into the realities of the market in Nigeria and the opportunities for investment that Nigerians must be made aware of to take advantage. With adequate representation from journalists and broadcasters from Nigerian media houses and research analysts from investment houses, the workshop will be a site for cross-sharing on the best ways to impart important information on the growth of the market and investment opportunities inherent in it.

According to AFEX’s Country Manager, Ayodeji Balogun, “The part that the media has to play in driving sensitization and subsequent understanding of the commodities market in Nigeria is a big one, and this workshop will focus on exploring research and reporting opportunities in the commodities space with particular focus on following the trends in the market and understanding technical reports that are a vital resource for deriving information.”

Trading Stories is scheduled to hold on the 18th of June 2019 from 10am to 4pm at Canton Concourse, V.I, Lagos.
