NSEASI Trades Towards 11-Month Low; YTD Loss Hits -7.44%

Nigeria’s equities market maintained downtrend to extend its six-day losing streak as NSEASI dipped by -0.13% to open the first trading day of the week negative while NSEASI YTD loss hits -7.44% at the close of trading as at August 13th, 2018.

The continuous downtrend performance of the index at the close of trading, if sustained for the next few trading days, reflected that it is trading towards hitting its 11-month low. In a nutshell, the index continues to deep under water compared with the performance it recorded in 2017 as it closed the year with +42.30% gain.

Sector Review

A review of the key sector performance revealed the NSE ASeM Index is the most hit with -25.51% YTD loss. NSE Industrial, Food and NSE Oil and Gas Indices followed closely with -14.20%, -13.30% and -9.40% YTD losses respectively.

However, NSE Insurance Index currently records +2.07% YTD gain to emerge as the index which currently trade in positive territories.
