Dangote Cement Plc is pleased to announce the release
of its 2020 Annual Report and Sustainability Report - Resilience and
This year, we have combined our Annual Report
and our Sustainability Report. This report is structured around the 7
Sustainability Pillars of what we call "The Dangote Way". The report also
focuses on our response to COVID-19 and our export strategy.
Our 7 pillars include:
- Cultural Pillar: Here we discuss
employees' growth, training & development practices in 2020. Despite
the COVID-19 pandemic, 12,709 employees were trained for 92,999 hours.
- Economic Pillar: We show our contribution to
Africa's longâ€‘term economic development. This includes but is not limited
to local procurement, strong dividend payment and contribution to
household income. In 2020, we created 41,018 additional direct and
indirect jobs in Nigeria, Ethiopia, Senegal, Tanzania and South Africa.
Pillar: We outline how our operations have increased cement production
across our 10 facilities, whilst maintaining high levels of operational
safety and product quality. Group volumes were up 8.6%; Nigerian
volumes up 12.9%
- Social Pillar: We discuss our social
investments in 2020 focusing on Health and Education, including our
COVID-19 interventions. We spent â‚¦2.85bn on social investment in
2020, up 67%, while $5.8m was spent on protecting our people and
communities from COVID-19 in 2020.
Pillar: We have made significant improvement on our environmental
performance in terms of energy, water and emissions, and focus on
alternative fuel utilisation.
Pillar: We have highlighted our strong corporate governance framework and
diverse Board. We have c.20% female representation, 6 different
nationalities and 5 independent directors on the Board. Our
sustainability report has been prepared in accordance with the GRI
Standards: Core option, and validated through external assurance.
- Financial Pillar: We continue to deliver strong
and sustainable returns to shareholders. Earnings were up 37.7% in 2020
compared to 2019.
