Ladies and Gentlemen;

Welcome. I welcome you to this unveiling of Nigerian Code of Corporate Governance 2018. The Code is the result of a lot of work by the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria and its partners and stakeholders over the past several years. It’s been a long journey and we are pleased to be at the cusp of the formal issuance of the Code.

But today will be a short and crisp events. Given the history and the journey of the Code, the Board of the Council deemed it appropriate to have this coming-out event for the Code and we are pleased that you are able to join us.

Many of you will recall our earlier attempt to issue National Codes in 2016, the suspension of that effort and our having to go back to the drawing board. We have fully leveraged the lessons learnt for the current effort and this was reflected in the extensive consultation and engagement with stakeholders, the collaborative processes adopted by the Technical Committee that assisted our development of the Code and the public hearings that were held in the six geo-political zones of the country, including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

So really, the FRC has merely modified a process that many of you here have been part of and active contributors to. I hope you would at the end of the day find the end product a worthy representation of your many contributions.

I am confident that you will all therefore enthusiastically assist in ensuring full implementation of Nigerian Code of Corporate Governance 2018 given the crucial roles you have played in its development.

Welcome once again, sit back, relax and let us work through the programme together.

Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen, thank you and God bless.
