Justice Reform Project (JRP) in collaboration with Edo State Judiciary hosted its 2nd Mock Remote Hearing on March 29, 2021. The remote session featured an interlocutory hearing as well as a trial heard by the Honourable Chief Judge of Edo State, Hon. Justice E.A Edigin who presided over the session while U.T Udochi Esq and Osaro Eghobamein, SAN were the lead counsel from the Claimant and Defendant's side, respectively.

The case with SUIT NO: B/RH/1 /2021 between Raspotech Nigeria Limited (Claimant) and Hesper Nigeria Limited (Defendant) was to recover outstanding sums due to the Claimant under a contract for supply of specific equipment. The case featured contemporary legal issues such as the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on commercial transactions and the exercise of corporate powers by employees of companies.

Speaking on the essence of the Justice Reform Project, Nonso Anyasi, the Registrar of the court explained that the idea behind the project is to demonstrate to participants in the judicial sector that virtual hearing can be done in Nigeria. According to him, this meant that technology could be deployed to improve the judicial process in the country and serve as a critical reform for the vital arm of government. It is instructive considering the need to improve the court activities amidst the challenges posed by the COVID 19 pandemic.

The Chief Judge, High Court of Edo State, Hon. Justice Edigin in her closing remarks, adjourned the court for the next 13 days, ahead of the final reading.
