NBCC Inaugurates Bisi Adeyemi as her 17th President launches a Software Programming Academy

The Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce (NBCC) on Friday, December 03, 2021, hosted the inaugural dinner to formally celebrate its 17th President, Mrs Bisi Adeyemi. The dinner had in attendance members of the chamber, special guests, and dignitaries, who came to celebrate and share their good will messages with the newly appointed President.

 

The Chairman of the occasion, Dr. Olayemi Cardoso, Chairman, Citibank Nigeria Limited, had a lot of accolades for the Chamber and encouraged Mrs Bisi Adeyemi, as she takes over as the 17th and second female President of the Chamber. The British Deputy High Commissioner in Lagos, Mr. Ben Llewellyn-Jones, also gave his good will message to Mrs. Adeyemi, and spoke about the key role the NBCC plays in bridging the gap between Nigeria and the UK across different sectors, and wished the new president good success in her tenure.

 

Dr. Omobola Johnson, Chairman, Guinness Nigeria Plc and Senior Partner, TLcom Capital, spoke on the importance of technology as an enabler of governance and economic prosperity. She also asserted that the government could work hand in hand with telecommunication experts to create infrastructures that would boost the economy using technology. She mentioned the possibility of virtual voting systems in Nigeria, to further enhance inclusion and create a safer voting environment for all Nigerians.

 

Mr. Kayode Falowo, immediate past president of the NBCC, gave his farewell speech and best wishes as officially passed the baton to Mrs Bisi Adeyemi at the inaugural dinner.

 

Mrs. Bisi Adeyemi, the 17th President, NBCC and Managing Director, DCSL, in her heartfelt speech - left no stone unturned, as she thanked members of the chamber, the committee, all those who had supported her so far, and made the event a success. She also used the opportunity to encourage everyone present to vote in the coming election, in other to attain the change we seek. In her remarks, she highlighted the desire to have recorded resounding success at the end of her tenor.

 

The Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who also graced the event congratulated the president on her inauguration and commended the NBCC and its members on a job well-done in representing Nigeria remarkably across the globe.

 

A key highlight of the event was the launch of the NBCC Software Academy and Business Incubator. The NBCC's current administration also birthed a technology sector group, which will serve as a platform to further tech activities and boost opportunities for members. The newly launched tech-incubator will be focused on young women, to serve as a pipeline to give them a nudge towards the STEM profession and bring about innovation.

 

The NBCC further looks forward to organizing programs that will generate more business-to-business opportunities for members, to incubate and mentor tech start-ups and enthusiasts, and position members to attract funding locally and internationally.
