Technology, has moved from being a business enabler to a game changer in the market place, causing the kind of disruptions never experienced by man. It took the airline industry 68 years to achieve 50 million customers. Transport industry took 62 years to do so. Television business took 14 years to achieve the target. But Facebook achieved 50 million customers in 3 years, Instagram in 2 years, Pokemon games in 3 weeks.
Just 17 years ago, Kodak had 170,000 employees and sold 85% of all photo paper worldwide. Within a few years, their Industry business model changed, they failed to react and they are no more. The wave of disruption has swept through the transport Industry, entertainment industry, accommodation industry and electronics.
The banking industry has not been spared as the likes of PayPal, Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, Google Pay. Facebook and Instagram are disrupting banking and payments. Public sector agencies are the next target as smart cities are springing up in different parts of the world. How will these disruptions affect the Nigerian businesses and most especially the Accounting and finance profession.
This summit is aimed at creating awareness on disruptive technologies, understanding the impact of disruptive technologies on accounting and business, and demonstrating the use of various applications of disruptive technologies. It would also provide an interactive platform for users of various applications with industry experts and facilitate networking amongst participants. It will provide a unique opportunity for software vendors to be able to showcase/market their products/services and obtain feedback from existing users.
