CIBN 13th Annual Bankers Conference To Focus On Facilitating A Sustainable Future

The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) in collaboration with Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), will be hosting the 13th Annual Bankers Conference, billed to hold simultaneously in Abuja and Lagos on September 15 and 16, 2020. The conference themed; "Facilitating a Sustainable Future: The Role of Banking and Finance" will bring together prominent bankers; major economic players; captains of industries; regulators; policy makers; members of the academic community and other stakeholders in the banking and finance industry.


Addressing a press conference in Lagos today, The President and Chairman of Council of the CIBN, Mr. Bayo Olugbemi said the Institute for the first time is adopting a hybrid approach to the conference which will take place simultaneously, at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja and the Bankers' House, Adeola Hopewell Street, Lagos and through Zoom teleconferencing


According to him "In line with the theme, participants will evaluate the role of the Banking and Finance Industry in engendering an inclusive sustainable growth as well as offering a direction on how to reposition the Industry for relevance in the new world order, by leveraging on digitalization to boost Nigeria's economy" he stated.


Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Consultative Committee for organizing the conference and MD/CEO Ecobank, Mr. Patrick Akinwutan said the "annual forum will be used to brainstorm on strategic issues that are critical to building a sound and sustainable financial ecosystem and economy, with resolutions made available to all the relevant stakeholders and policy makers to enable them re-appraise and align their operations and strategies in line with global best practice".


The conference will feature over 2,500 participants, across the globe who  are expected to participate virtually, with the Governor of The CBN, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, CON, FCIB as Chief Host and President and Chairman of Council CIBN, Mr. Bayo Olugbemi as Host.  Dignitaries including  President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR and his Ghanaian counterpart, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo are expected to participate at the conference, including Senator Ahmad Lawan, Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; Honorable Femi Gbajabiamila, Speaker, House of Representative of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Executive Governor of Lagos State; Mrs. Zainab Ahmed, Honourable Minister of Finance, Federal Republic of Nigeria,  Mr. Mohammed Musa, Honorable Minister, Federal Capital Territory and other notable personalities.


An array of highly renowned industry experts have been carefully selected as resource persons at the Conference, with Dr. Okey Enelamah, former Minister of Trade and Investment as Keynote Speaker. Dr. Enelamah is the Chairman of African Capital Alliance an investment and advisory company. Having garnered experience in the world's renowned financial centers of London and New York as well as Johannesburg, he co-founded ACA to promote private sector-led investments in Nigeria and West Africa. African Capital Alliance manages a family of private equity funds with over $160m in capital commitments.

A qualified chartered accountant and chartered financial analyst, he was elected George F. Baker Scholar and designated Loeb Fellow for academic excellence in the area of finance at the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration, where he earned a Master in Business Administration (MBA) with distinction in 1994.


A medical doctor by training, Dr. Enelamah's journey into the world of finance began in 1988 at Arthur Andersen & Co. (now KPMG Professional Services WA) where he led project teams as senior consultant and audit senior. He went on to work in the New York and London offices of Goldman Sachs & Co. in the summer of 1993, before moving on to Zephyr Management LP in New York as an investment manager. He became a principal at Capital Zephyr, Johannesburg, South Africa between 1995 and 1997, where he worked with the chief executive to launch a $150 million fund for direct equity investments in post-apartheid South Africa. Dr. Enelamah currently serves on the Board of several Companies and not-for-profit organizations in Nigeria.
