Atunyota Alleluya Akpobome known with the stage name "Ali Baba" has been a professional standup comedian for the past 30 years and has received several awards and recognitions for his outstanding performance.

 

Ali Baba is a pacesetter who through his resilience, dexterity and innovative approach transformed Stand Up comedy into a vibrant industry in Nigeria.

 

In 1993, he registered his company 'Alibaba Hicuppuray 3rd' to enhance the perception of comedians as a profession and a respected way of life.

 

As part of this work, in 1998, he hired billboards on strategic Lagos streets with the message that became known as "Being Funny is Serious Business".

 

He has mentored and encouraged several comedians in the country, ensuring that standards are maintained and professionalism encouraged.

 

Ali Baba professionalized his skills and carved a niche as an innovator and comedian for corporate and non-corporate events and by serving as a Master of Ceremony at many events.

 

He has enjoyed special recognitions like the induction into the "Johnny Walker Striding Man" society in 2009, was the first Nigerian comedian who rang the end of the year closing bell at the Nigeria stock exchange in 2012 and featured on the CNN African voices program in 2015.

 

As a Creative Industry Ali Baba is the Chairman of the Post COVID-19 Committee for the Creative Industry in Nigeria inaugurated by the Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism and a member of the Post COVID 19 Committee for Culture, Arts and Tourism in Lagos State.
