Confectionery giant, Cadbury Nigeria Plc has announced a further expansion of its Board of Directors with the appointment of Mrs. Ibukun Awosika as Non-Executive Director with effect from October 22, 2009. Mrs. Awosika is the Founder and Chairman of The Chair Centre Limited, the market leader in the office furniture and banking security systems industries. She currently serves as CEO of Sokoa Chair Centre Ltd., a joint venture with SOKOA SA, France and Guaranty Trust Bank Plc.
Announcing the appointment, Mr. Kufre Ekanem, Corporate Affairs Manager of Cadbury Nigeria said “as we rebuild our business back to profitability, we are concurrently consolidating our corporate governance and diversity agenda to ensure sustainability of outcomes. To this end, we are very proud to have an entrepreneur and advocate of Mrs Awosika’s pedigree join our Board at this time.”
In a related development, the company spokesman has also confirmed the appointment of Mr. Alan Williams, the current Corporate Finance Director of Cadbury Plc, UK as Non-Executive Director of Cadbury Nigeria and Mrs. Olamide Abudu as Company Secretary with effect from October 22, 2009.
According to Ekanem, “the rebuilding of Cadbury Nigeria has gathered pace with successes in several areas including our brands and trading program. We are optimistic that the presence of these experienced talents on our Board will add fervour and strength to our business going forward.”
Mrs. Ibukun Awosika is an alumna of the University of Ife, the Lagos Business School and the IESE Business School, Barcelona, Spain. She started her career with Akintola Williams & Co (now Akintola Williams Deloitte) as an Audit Trainee and set up Quebees Ltd after a stint in the furniture and home furnishing industry. She is the Founder & Chairman of The Chair Centre Limited a company which evolved from Quebees Ltd. Mrs Awosika is the host of Business His Way a television program, and is a past President of Women in Management and Business (WIMBIZ), an organization committed to elevating the profile of women in entrepreneurship and management. Mrs Awosika sits on several boards including The Convention on Business Integrity (CBI), Governing Council of the Lagos State University, Fortress Microfinance Bank, and Afterschool Graduate Development Centre. Mrs. Awosika is an author of two books and she won the FATE Model Entrepreneur Award for 2006, as well as the International Women Entrepreneurship award for 2008.
