Afribank Sponsors Seminar For Lagos Teachers

Over 500 teachers participated in a one-day seminar organized by Afribank Plc to build a motivated workforce for better performance in Lagos State schools.

The bank said that the seminar, organized in conjunction with EDUMARK CONSULT represents part of its social responsibility for the improvement of education

Speaking on the occasion, Mrs. Bunmi Odubanjo, Head of Retail Banking, urged other stakeholders to strive at promoting and supporting teachers in their efforts to develop the nation.

“The role of the Nigerian teacher in National Development is crucial and must not be undermined” she said, adding that it was important to invest in the development of teachers.

In a paper he delivered, Dr. Violet Arene, an educationist, she urged teachers to be worthy ambassadors of the profession.

She applauded the theme of the seminar: “Being a Teacher and Loving It, adding that teachers should be encouraged to keep the passion for their job alive in spite of challenges.

Arene explained that passion for the job was greater than problems and advised teachers to see their jobs beyond academic certificates as they “salvage destinies”.

She noted that teachers’ reward was not just material but spiritual as well as it had a positive and  indelible input in the making of a complete man for the future, she noted.

She admonished teachers to develop the power of good presentation in order to earn them respect.

Mr. Greg Ibeawuchi of Our Lady of Apostles’ Secondary School, Yaba, who has put in 25 years in the profession, commended the organizers for their vision.

“It feels good to know that teachers are being integrated and are becoming more recognized,” he said and called for more of such seminars.
