January 03, 2008

As part of its public-centred business strategy, Afribank Nigeria Plc recently presented thirty (30) commuter buses to the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), KanoState under its Afribank Life Improvement for Everyone (A-LIFE).

The buses were part of the 500 slated by the Bank to be presented to NURTW nationwide to ease transportation problems in the country.

Under the A-Life Scheme, Afribank is part sponsoring the cost of the buses by 70% while suppliers and NURTW provide the balance of 30% with a pay-back structure that guarantees mutual benefits.

The Bank has assisted public servants in CrossRiver and Abia, staff of Nigerian Air force and Navy to acquire office and life improvement facilities to aid their personal and professional advancement.

Afribank explained that the provision of facility to NURTW for the acquisition of buses was in line with its policy to partner forward looking private and public institutions in their bid to meet their stakeholders’ expectations.

The Chairman of Afribank, Alhaji Aliyu Kola Belgore (OFR), while presenting the buses to the officials of Kano State NURTW, remarked that the Bank recognizes strategic partnership with private and public institutions at all levels with a view to helping them implement empowerment projects and improve the welfare of their members.

Alhaji Belgore assured that professional groups could access similar facility from Afribank to increase productivity of their members. He said A-Life is designed to boost welfare schemes.

The Bank explained that it has provided a stand by facility to enable customers and non-customers to access the Scheme in any of its over 250 business locations nationwide.

The Secretary of NURTW in KanoState, Alhaji Kabiru Ado Yau, commended Afribank for the initiative which he described as revolutionary in the nation’s transport industry.

He added that Afribank has demonstrated its friendliness to the banking public with the A-Life product. He called on other organizations to emulate Afribank’s sensitivity to the needs of the market.
