FCMB Appoints Saxena New COO

The Board of Directors of First City Monument Bank Plc (FCMB) has been further strengthened, following the bank’s appointment of a former Barclays Bank’s Director as its Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Executive Director.


The new Chief Operating Officer, Anurag Saxena, who has already assumed duties at the bank, was Barclays Bank’s Director (Strategic Initiatives and Innovations, Africa, Middle East and Indian Ocean) based in the global head quarters in London and was involved in the integration of ABSA (largest consumer bank in South Africa) with Barclays and heading the Customer Solutions team for the continent.


Anurag Saxena joins the team of FCMB with over 17 years of global banking experience spanning areas of consumer banking, marketing , banking operations, sales, distribution, product development, strategy, service quality and information technology with experience in over 25 countries.


Before Barclays, he was the Regional Head for Sales, Marketing, Service Quality and Business Intelligence for Standard Chartered Bank, Africa based in the global head office in London and has been visiting Nigeria regularly as he was involved in setting of the bank’s Nigerian operations. He was with Standard Chartered for over 10 years doing senior roles in other emerging markets in Asia and Middle East specially focusing on Consumer Banking.


Before joining Standard Chartered, he served as Assistant Vice-President, Investment and Liability Products for a very dynamic bank in Dubai, UAE called Mashreq Bank, where he was responsible for the development of several products including the hugely successful ‘Mashreq Millionaire’ and played a key role in transforming the bank to one of the largest consumer bank in the country.


Prior to that, he was the Territory Operations Manager, Middle East and Europe – NRI Business for Citibank and extensively traveled Africa and Middle East and earlier a business Analyst in the Financial Control Unit.


Anurag holds a Bachelor of Engineering from the Regional Institute of Technology, India, and an MBA from the reputed Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing in UK and holds Investment certification IIAC, ICMQ from the British Securities Institute.


Anurag’s appointment, a statement by the bank says is part of a recent expansion of the bank’s Board to include some internationally acclaimed professionals, and aimed at further enhancing good corporate governance in the institution.
