130912 All-Share Index firms up by +1.24% as sentiments remain unchanged

The bulls continue to exert their grip on the bourse as bargain activities outweighed sell pressure significantly for the second session in a row amid improved market breadth while the key market indicator closed above 25,000 psychological lines with market YTD performance currently standing at +21.31%.

More so, the key benchmark indices resumed uptrend, taking supports majorly from Medium CAP stocks led by UACN and GLAXOSMITH while continuous bargain activities witnessed in Financial Services, Industrial Goods and Consumer Goods sectors also contributed to the outlook recorded today.

In the same vein, the market capitalization of 187 first-tier equities appreciated by N98.24 billion as market sentiments remained positive. 98 equities were traded today as against previous 105 with more activities recorded in Financial Services, Industrial Goods, Consumer Goods, Oil & Gas, ICT, Healthcare, Agriculture and Conglomerates sectors.

Today, five NSE sectoral indices closed positive as NSE 30 which basically measures the performance of blue chips maintained uptrend by +1.42%, NSE Food closed with +2.14% gain while NSE Banking also closed with +1.06% gain, NSE Insurance records +1.88% gain while NSE Oil & Gas closed positive with -0.41% loss. The New NSE LII closed positive with +0.61% gain.

At the close of trading session, the NSE All-Share Index inches up by +1.24% to close at 25,148.48 as against an upbeat by +1.10% recorded in the previous session to close at 24,839.87. In the same vein, market capitalization appreciated by N98.24 billion (US$654.73 million) to close at N8.00 trillion (US$53.35 billion) as against appreciation by N86.36 billion (US$575.55 million) recorded in preceding session to close at N7.90 trillion (US$52.69 billion).

The number of gainers at the close of trading session closed higher at 37 as against 34 recorded in the previous session while decliners also closed higher at thirteen (13) as against twelve (12) losers recorded in the previous trading day – suggesting a positive market breadth.

As usual, Financial services sector led the market transaction volume today with 326.31 million units valued at N2.19 billion (US$14.61 million) exchanged in 2,727 deals as against 772.64 million units valued at N2.54 billion (US16.97 million) exchanged in 2,985 deals recorded in previous session.

The volume recorded in the sector was driven by transaction in the shares of ZENITHBANK, RESORTSAL, ACCESS, UBA and SKYEBANK Plc and the total volume of 217.79 million units valued at N1.62 billion traded in five stocks accounted for 48.25% of the entire market volume and their value represented 50.43% of the market’s value.

Transaction volume on the exchange moved down by -44.69% to close at 451.35 million units exchanged in 4,960 deals as against an upbeat by +207.06% recorded in the previous trading to close at 816.08 million units exchanged in 4,885 deals.

Also, market value depreciated by -2.69% to close at N3.22 billion (US21.52 million) as against appreciation by +28.70% recorded in the previous trading session to close at N3.31 billion (US$22.11 million).

Sectoral Performance (According to New Market Segmentation)

Financial Services sector led the market sectoral performance with 326.31 million units of shares traded in 2,727 trades within the sector, followed by Industrial Goods sector to come second on the chart with 45.31 million units traded in 420 trades while Consumer Goods sector recorded 34.62 million units in 1,055 trades to close with third position on the chart. Market Outlook by Classification

At the end of today's session, it was observed that Small Cap stocks according to new market segmentation topped today's market activity with 37.29% contribution to market turnover, followed by Medium Cap stocks with 35.24% while Large Cap stocks stake 27.47% to come last on the chart


Among the Large cap stocks, DANGCEM, GUARANTY and NB Plc topped the 9 traded stocks in that class while ETI, UNILEVER and UBA dominated Medium Cap of 23 traded stocks. Similarly, TRANSCORP, MANSARD and UNITYBNK led 66 traded stocks in the Small Cap category in that order. See table below



SECTORAL REVIEW 

The Agriculture sector closed two gainers as against two gainers recorded in the previous session.


The Conglomerates sector closed with two gainers to one loser as against one gainer recorded in the previous session.


The Construction/Real Estate sector closed with two gainers to one loser as against one gainer to one loser recorded in the previous session.


The Consumer Goods sector closed with seven gainers to three losers as against eight gainers to two losers recorded in previous session.


The Financial Services sector closed with fourteen gainers to four losers as against thirteen gainers to four losers recorded in the previous session. Access Bank Plc moved up by +4.95% while Zenith Bank Plc moved down by -0.61% loss after today’s trading session.                                                                                 

 

The Healthcare sector closed with three gainers compared to one gainer to two losers recorded in previous session. 

The ICT sector closed with no price movement compared with no price movement recorded in previous session.

 
The Industrial Goods sector closed with three gainers to one loser as against three gainers to one loser recorded in previous session.


The Natural Resources sector closed with no price movement as against any price movement recorded in previous session.


The Oil & Gas sector closed with one gainer to three losers as against two gainers to two losers recorded in previous session.


The Services sector closed with two gainers to three losers as against three gainers recorded in the previous session.


Further analysis on Acquiring Banks since transaction date showed that the share price of Access Bank Plc has recorded +92.93% gains with FCMB recording -23.08% losses while Union Bank Plc leads the chart with +227.27% gains. However, Sterling Bank Plc recorded +3.94% gains while ETI closed negative with -4.03% loss recorded. See the tracking table below.
