The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria has embarked on a restructuring exercise aimed at strengthening its operations and processes with a view to meeting the expectations of stakeholders in the banking industry and economy at large.
This is necessitated by the numerous innovative ideas and projects initiated by the current leadership of the Institute led by Mr. Segun Aina, OFR, FCIB, which are aimed at ensuring that CIBN realizes its ambition of becoming a world-class institution in banking and finance education, ethics and professionalism. Top on the key initiatives include benchmarking programmes of other banking institutes in various countries; creating a new administrative structure for the Institute; enhanced Certification programmes; reviewed ACIB Syllabus which will lead to 4 routes to ACIB; development of a Competency Framework for the banking industry; improved Continuous Compulsory Development programme (CCPD) and establishment of a Banking School to deepen knowledge and skills in the industry.
To drive these initiatives, the Institute promoted three Principal Managers to Assistant Directors. The newly promoted Assistant Directors are Mr. Segun Shonubi, former Principal Manager Membership Services; Mr. Oluseye Awojobi, FCIB, former Principal Manager Education and Mrs. Rukayat Yusuf, former Principal Manager, Consultancy, Training and Research. Part of the restructuring exercise includes the creation of Group Heads to provide effective and efficient leadership for the various divisions in the Institute including Membership Services; Learning and Development; Capacity Building and Certification; Finance and Corporate Services; Ethics and Professionalism and Other Bankers Committee Division; and National Secretariat Annex, Abuja.

Mr. Segun Shonubi, Assistant Director/Group Head, Membership Services:
Mr. Segun Shonubi attended University of Ibadan where he obtained a Masters degree in Managerial Psychology, in 2000. He had earlier obtained a degree in Mass Communication and a Professional Diploma from Nigerian Institute of Public Relations.
Mr. Segun Shonubi, a versatile and resourceful Manager, who prior to his promotion was the Principal Manager/Head, Membership Services, is expected to use his wealth of knowledge and communication skills to enhance the service delivery to members of the Institute.
Other positions he has held in the Institute include - Senior Manager, Membership, 2006 – 2010 ; Head, Human Resources and Administration, 2003 – 2006; Head, Corporate Affairs, 2000 – 2003; Public Relations Officer, 1996 – 1999 and Executive Assistant to the Registrar/CE, 1993 – 1996.
Prior to his joining the services of the Institute, Mr. Segun Shonubi was a Staff writer with Resolute Magazine (an oil and gas publication), 1991 – 1992 and was a Staff Reporter with New Nigerian Newspaper, 1989 – 1991. Mr. Shonubi is an Associate members of some professional bodies including Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON), Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and Association of Corporate Affairs Managers of Banks (ACAMB).
Mrs. Rukayat Yusuf, Assistant Director/Group Head, National Secretariat Annex, Abuja
Mrs. Rukayat Yusuf holds a Masters degree in Industrial & Labour Relations (MILR), M.Sc. Political Science, from University of Lagos and B.Sc. Political Science, University of Jos. She is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management, USA.
Mrs. Yusuf prior to her promotion, occupied other positions in the Institute including Principal Manager, Consultancy, Training and Research (now Learning and Development) April 29, 2012 – June 29, 2012; Principal Manager, HR/Administration, 2009 – 2012; Principal Manager, Education 2008 – 2009; Principal Manager, Training, 2008; Senior Manager, Training 2006 – 2007; Manager, Training 2004 – 2005; Manager, Membership Services; 2002 – 2004; Deputy Manager, Membership Services 2001 – 2001; Assistant Manager, Membership Services 1998 – 2000; Examinations Officer 1995 – 1997 and Training Officer 1993 – 1995. Mrs Yusuf is expected to use her experience and skills to improve the relations between the Institute and government agencies and foreign missions in the country.
Oluseye Awojobi, FCIB, Assistant Director/Head, Ethics and Professionalism and Other Bankers Committee Affairs Division
Mr. Oluseye Awojobi, a Fellow of the Institute, who is entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring that complaints and cases on violation of ethics and professionalism in the banking industry are professionally adjudicated upon through the Bankers Committee Sub-committee on Ethics and Professionalism. He holds a Masters degree in Business Administration (MBA) and B.Sc in Banking and Finance (2nd Class Upper) from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, Ogun State. He is an Associate of The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria; Associate of Institute of Chartered Mediators & Conciliators and Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered). Mr. Awojobi is currently pursuing an Mphil/Ph.D. degree in Entrepreneurship, Babcock University, Ilishan, Ogun State. He was a member of the Human Capital Development and Information Communication Technology Consultancy Committee of the FSS 2O2O project of the Central Bank of Nigeria. He had also participated as a Consultant in the FGN/EU State Economic Empowerment Development Strategy(SEEDS) assessment.
Prior to his promotion, Mr. Awojobi was Principal Manager/Head, Directorate of Education, 2009 – July 2012; Principal Manager/Head, Directorate of Consultancy, Training and Research, 2008- 2009; Senior Manager, Consultancy, 2007; Senior Manager/Zonal Coordinator(North) 2006- 2007; Manager/Zonal Coordinator (North), 2004 – 2005; Deputy Manager, Consultancy Department, 2000 – 2004 and Assistant Manager, Training Department, 2000. Before joining the Institute in the year 2000, he was the Admin Manager, CIBN Lagos Branch, 1996- 2000; Assistant Manager/Head, Banking Operation, Greenfield Mortgage Finance Co. Ltd., 1993 – 1995 and Manager, Peoples Emergency Deposit Scheme (PEDS), Peoples Bank of Nigeria, 1992.
Mr. Festus METU Anyanwu, ACIB, Principal Manager/Group Head, Finance and Corporate Services Division
Mr. Festus Metu Anyanwu holds a B.Sc Accounting degree from the University of Lagos. He is an Associate member of both The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria and Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators. He is a Fellow of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria.
Until his current position as a Group Head, Mr. Anyanwu who would have the opportunity of improving the fortunes of the Institute, was the Principal Manager, Finance, Human Resources and Administration, 2011 – 2012; Senior Manager, Membership/Zonal Co- ordinator, East, 2007- 2011; Manager, Ethics & Professionalism Unit, 2002 – 2007; Audit Manager, Ndukwu Eke & Co. (Chartered Accountants), Port Harcourt 2000 – 2002 and Assistant Branch Manager, Nigerian-American Merchant Bank Ltd. Port Harcourt Branch 1993-1998.
