Access Bank to implement workplace health initiatives

June 6, 2012 by Ademola Alawiye

Access Bank Plc has declared its intention to champion the implementation of new health initiatives in workplace across the sub-Saharan Africa.

The Chief Executive Officer, Access Bank, Mr. Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, made the announcement at the GBCHealth Annual Conference in New York recently.

A statement made available to our correspondent on Tuesday quoted Aig-Imoukhuede as saying that beyond Access Bank’s pioneering role in the fight against HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria, the bank was expanding its frontiers on the global health space to provide support and implement programmes that would contain cancer and other non-communicable diseases.

“Access Bank’s resolve to continuously promote healthy living amongst its employees and other stakeholder groups is the Bank’s noble contribution towards the attainment of the MDGs,” he said.

At this year’s annual conference entitled, “Defining Forward: Business, Health and the Road Ahead,” it featured discussions by leading voices across the globe, such as former United States Ambassador, Ms. Nancy Brinker; the First Lady of South Africa, Mrs. Rhonda Zygocki; Executive Vice President, Policy and Planning, Chevron Corporation, Mr. Eric Goosby; US Global AIDS Coordinator; Mr. Michel Sidibe; Executive Director, UNAIDS; Mr. John Tedstrom.

They affirmed the need for businesses to seek innovative approaches to end health issues at the workplace.
