The 47th President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria ( ICAN) , Professor Francis Ojaide was in London on the 31st of March 2012 to confer the ICAN Merit award on the immediate past chairman of ICAN UK district, Mrs ‘Ronke Adeagbo.

The award was in recognition of Ronke’s vision, tenacity, passion and professionalism which has added tremendous value to ICAN UK District. Under her leadership, the District hosted the first ICAN conference outside the shores of Nigeria. The District celebrated the Nigeria’s 50th Anniversary celebrations by holding a public lecture at, and with the collaboration, of the Nigeria High Commission in London, on how professional accountants in the Diaspora can contribute to the Economic Development of Nigeria. During her tenure, the District also made significant progress in working with ICAN Lagos to facilitate a Bill to regulate the NGO sector in Nigeria.

Ronke has chaired many committees of ICAN UK District. In 2007, as well as serving as the Vice Chair of the District, she chaired the first Special Candidate Intensive Course and Induction Committee in the UK, the first outside the shores of Nigeria. The programme is now in its 6th year and has led to over 200 Accountants in the UK achieving the ICAN qualification. In recognition of the District being a flagship district and for its excellence, the UK District was awarded "ICAN District of the Year 2007" for the first time ever by the parent body. In 2009, Ronke won the ‘Accountant of the Year Award’ at the ‘Gathering of Africa’s Best’ Awards ceremony in London.
